Change an RDS GRR policy to an RDS SecureVault Archive policy

The RDS GRR tier will remain available on the Clumio platform until December 5, 2023, after which it will be replaced by the RDS SecureVault Archive tier on December 6, 2023. Existing RDS GRR policies will continue to function until November 30, 2024, unless migrated to the new SecureVault Archive tier. The document details how to modify backup policies to the SecureVault Archive tier and how to convert existing GRR backups to the new tier.

This article describes

  • How to modify a backup policy to transition RDS backups to the RDS SecureVault Archive tier.
  • How to convert your existing GRR backups to SecureVault Archive tier backups.

Edit an existing RDS GRR backup policy

  1. From the Clumio Portal, navigate to Protect > Backup policies.
  2. Select the backup policy that you are using to protect your RDS assets.
  3. Click the Edit icon under the Actions column, the Edit policy dialog box displays.
  4. To edit the frequency and retention settings of the backup policy, click the edit icon in the Actions column. The Configure RDS dialog box displays.
  1. Under the SecureVault Record frequency and retention settings, make a note of the retention frequencies configured and uncheck all the retention frequencies. This will change the backup tier from SecureVault Record frequency and retention settings to SecureVault Archive frequency and retention settings. See the screenshot below for more details.
  1. Configure the frequency and retention values as noted in the previous step for the SecureVault Archive frequency and retention settings.
  2. Click Add, review the policy summary and then click Save.
This will ensure the subsequent backups for the RDS Assets associated with this backup policy are of the RDS SecureVault Archive backup type.

Note: Clumio recommends that users also implement a SecureVault Standard backup policy, if they currently maintain GRR backups with a retention of less than 3 months and wish to maintain this retention period in order to avoid any associated early deletion fees.
