Backup policies

Configure a backup policy to automatically generate backups at configured intervals and keep those backups for the configured periods. Backup policies are also known as service level agreements (SLAs).

Use backup policies to define how often to backup your assets (frequency), how long to keep backups (retention), backup tier, and whether to store the backups in the same or different region (destination). See SecureVault backup for more information.

The Backup policies page lists all currently available policies. Each policy in the list includes the following information:

  • Policy name: The name of the policy.
  • Configured for: The asset types for which the policy is configured. A policy can be configured for multiple asset types.
  • Status: The policy activation state. A policy that is in "Activated" state performs all scheduled tasks, including backups and snapshots, for the assets assigned to the policy. When a policy is created, it is activated by default.
Deactivating a policy stops all of the policy's scheduled tasks from running, affecting all assets assigned to the policy. When you deactivate a policy, any tasks that are currently in progress will be unaffected and will run to completion.
  • Assets: The number of assets assigned to the policy (via their asset type). Click the number to see the list of assets assigned to the policy, organized by asset type
  • Compliance Status: The compliance status of the assets covered by the policy. The color segments within the colored bar display the compliance statuses of these assets. Click one of the color segments in the color bar to view the status and number of assets per asset type in that compliance status.
  • Actions: The icons in this column indicate the actions you can take for a specific policy. The available actions are Edit, Copy, and Delete. You can edit, delete, or copy a policy based on the permissions of your assigned role. For example, users who are assigned the "Reporting/Audit Admin" role can view but not edit policies. Expand a policy to view the asset types it protects, the number of assets of the asset type assigned to the policy, and the compliance statuses of these assets. Click the number in the Assets column to view details about the assets protected by the policy and the compliance status of each of the assets.

NOTE: You can only perform actions on policies if they were created in the organizational unit that you are currently logged into.

Clumio starts the backup seeding process right away to synchronize the data between the asset and Clumio. The initial backup seeding process creates a full backup of the asset and saves it to Clumio. After that, backups are generated based on the policy’s configured schedule. If you add or remove assets from within the Clumio environment, the changes are detected immediately and a backup is triggered. If you make the changes from the asset type account, then those changes are updated in Clumio within an hour.

To create a policy click Create. To activate or deactivate a policy or several policies, select them in the table and then click Activate or Deactivate.
