M365 restores

Clumio policies let you restore appropriate Microsoft 365 emails or mailboxes to the same account that they were backed up from, or to a separate mailbox or folder. You can also search for email messages by subject, date/time, to/from, and other filters, giving you flexibility to restore individual messages instead of an entire mailbox. You can restore Microsoft 365 Exchange mailboxes, OneDrive libraries, and SharePoint sites from available unexpired backups.

  1. Navigate to Restore > Microsoft 365 and select any one of Exchange, OneDrive or SharePoint.
  2. Select the account for which you want to perform the restore.
  3. Click a mailbox, library, or site to restore, a calendar view displays for the current month. You can also view the calendar by year. The months with backups that are available for restore have those dates highlighted. You can switch to a listview by clicking the list icon.
    The calendar view displays:
  4. A panel to the right of the calendar that provides asset details such as the policy name and the oldest available backup data, compliance status
  5. A table below the calendar with a list of any previous restores that were performed and the date and time they occurred. It also displays any active alerts with a link to the Alerts page.

The calendar view has colored dots for the different assets that have been backed up. A legend just below the calendar indicates what type of backup the colored dots represent. You can choose which backup to restore from the available options.

You can track the progress of your restore operation from the Administration > Tasks page.

M365 Exchange

You can restore Microsoft 365 emails or mailboxes, contacts, and calendars to the same account that they were backed up from, or to a different mailbox or folder.

You can restore a Microsoft In-Place Archive to an In-Place archive folder or to another folder in the primary mailbox.

You can also save mailboxes, emails, contacts, or calendars from a primary mailbox to an In-Place archive folder.

A browse option lets you search for email messages, contacts, and calendar events using filters, giving you the flexibility to restore individual messages instead of an entire mailbox, specific contacts instead of all contacts, or specific events instead of all events. Clumio provides the option to search for individual messages or browse emails backed up within specific time periods.
If you also backup OneDrive, the calendar view displays the available backups. You can restore an entire OneDrive library or you can browse the library and select files or folders to restore. See M365 OneDrive.

You can restore mail from active or inactive mailboxes as long as a backup of those mailboxes exists.

Restore a mailbox

  1. If you choose to restore an entire mailbox (including contacts and calendars) a dialog displays, choose the relevant options for the Selected application types. The Email, Contacts, and Calendars checkboxes are selected by default when you choose to restore the entire mailbox. You can uncheck the applications you donโ€™t want to restore. If you remove Calendars from the restore option, the Event attendees option is removed.
  2. Select an account to restore to from the Account drop down menu. This can be the same as the source account or a different one as long as it is connected to Clumio.
  3. The Mailbox Name displays the name of the mailbox you selected for restore by default. To change this value, you need to type in the name of a mailbox to restore to.
  4. You can provide a folder name that, if provided (this is an optional field), will create a new folder outside of the Inbox, on the destination mailbox where all selected messages will be restored to while maintaining the folder hierarchy.
  5. If you choose to restore calendars, the option to add the attendee list to the event description is selected by default. This is available when calendars are to be restored. Select an option per your requirements.
  6. You can restore a mailbox to the primary folder or to the In-Place archive.

    • The Restore with permission configuration option maintains existing permissions on the files and folders.
  • To restore the drive to a different location the following options are available:
    • Account: This can be the same as the source account or a different one as long as it is connected to Clumio.

    • Folder: You can optionally choose a folder to restore to.
    • Select an option from the drop down menu to handle duplicate file names.

  • Use filters to narrow your search results.
  • Once you have made your selections, the options on the Review and Restore screen are the same as those described in Restore OneDrive depending on whether you choose to restore to the original location or to a different location.

Editing a file while performing a restore causes the task to show up as failed in the UI. If one file fails, the task does not proceed.

M365 SharePoint

You can restore a SharePoint site or file(s) to a different account or use the original account (default). When you restore SharePoint data, you have the option to recover an entire site, or search for subsites and files within the site. Clumio only restores SharePoint sites to existing sites. It does not create a new site during a restore, however if sub-sites are part of a restore, Clumio will create a site for them if one does not already exist.

Restoring existing files may create duplicate files. You have the option to skip files if the original files are still present. If list items exist in SharePoint during a restore, Clumio creates duplicate entries with the same name.

To restore a SharePoint site or files from a SharePoint, click the quick links to the latest available backups or select an available backup from the calendar. The pop-up dialog box provides the following options:

Restore site: Select this option when you want to restore the entire site and its contents.

Browse site content: Select this option when you want to restore specific files or folders. Use the filter to narrow your search results.

    • Select an account from the drop down list.
    • Type a site name.
    • Select an option to handle duplicate item names.

If you choose the Browse site content option, choose the files and folders you want to restore from the selected backup.
