DynamoDB Policy Configuration update
We have added an update designed to further enhance the safety and reliability of your data. As of September 30, 2024, we have increased the minimum retention period for DynamoDB backups from 1 day to 3 days. Initially, this change only applied to new backup policies created after this date. This applies to all RPOs including the hourly backup retention.
To ensure consistent best practices across the platform, we are now extending this configuration to all existing backup policies. This update reflects our ongoing commitment to providing robust, reliable, and industry-aligned data management solutions.
What this means for you:
- Existing backups with retention settings below 3 days will remain unchanged.
- Future backup configurations will require a minimum retention period of 3 days.
Steps to update an existing DynamoDB policy from 1-day to 3-day retention:
- Navigate to Protect > Backup Policies in the portal.
- Select the backup policy you’re using to protect your DynamoDB assets.
- Click the Edit icon under the Actions column. The Edit Policy dialog box will appear.
- Update the retention settings (minimum 3 days).
Important Note:
Increasing retention may result in a slight increase in credit consumption. However, this adjustment aligns with data management best practices, ensuring greater protection and peace of mind for your valuable assets.
